The Next Generation of Controlled Substance Prescription History Reports for the Health Care Professional
Even as prescription (drug) monitoring programs (PMP or PDMPs) are acknowledged as important tools in discovering potential abuse, misuse or diversion of controlled substances, analyzing the data provided can be time-consuming and challenging. This presentation provides an introduction to the next generation of these PMP request reports that can be generated from data contained in a prescription monitoring program. Through NARxCHECK, authorized prescribers and pharmacists are presented advanced analytics and graphical representations of PMP data. This allows for improved and more efficient comprehension of a person’s complete controlled substance prescription history in order to both improve patient safety as well as identify potential controlled substance prescription misuse and/or abuse.

Securing Patient and Provider Identities in a Mobile World
Electronic patient data is flowing from care providers, medical devices, phones and wearables at hospitals, practices, clinics and homes. How can we ensure that authorized care providers and patients can access – and make critical decisions base on – the correct information, from wherever they may be, without the risk of a breach? This session will explore methods for securing patient and provider identities, including: Palm vein scanning for patient ID; Single sign-on for secure access to patient data; 2 factor authentication for secure remote access; and EPCS and clinical workflow productivity.

Ohio Leaders of HIM executive panel discussion
This session presented in partnership with OHIMA

This panel will discuss and share thoughts and perspectives on the following:

Scanning is a hot topic in HIM departments today.

  • What do you find to be the pros and cons of scanning in your facility?
  • Does your facility scan everything they receive from external facilities? Or just a core set of documents?
On the note of scanning external medical records, is your facility leveraging the Health Information Exchange to decrease the amount of paper, better continuity of care and help with disclosure management?
Interfaces … they seem to be exponentially increasing as facilities become more electronic. They are great when they work. A struggle when they don’t. What difficulties have you encountered with interfaces in your department?
Another hot topic is Mobile Technology.
  • What types of security measures does your facility have in place? Do you allow staff to access the EMR with a personal devices (cell phone, etc.)?

Has your staff experienced any phishing scams?
Does Release of Information encrypt devices (USB, CDs) when releasing them with patient info on them?
What are your facilities doing to prepare for Ohio Medicaid EAPG Outpatient Prospective Payment System (Implementation Date: January 1, 2017)?
Additional topics to be discussed if there is time permitting.

Make it personal A call to action for Healthcare
Attendees will learn what Intel’s Health and Life Sciences group is investing in to utilize technology to meet healthcare challenges

  • Workplace Transformation and Trends affecting clinical workflows
  • Current “one-size-fits-all” model is unsustainable
  • Triple aim of creating a sustainable healthcare system must be focused on lowering cost while improving both quality and access – with life expectancies increasing, an aging and potentially sicker population with both acute and chronic conditions will further exacerbate these factors, placing additional strain on an already overloaded and outdated approach
